A participação do Brasil na missão das Nações Unidas no Sudão

Abstract

O fim da Guerra Fria abriu caminho para o surgimento de uma série de conflitos intranacionais baseados em antagonismos mantidos adormecidos pela influência das grandes potências do sistema bipolar. Muitos desses conflitos ocorreram em países africanos como o Sudão, que vivenciou longos períodos de guerra civil. O presente relatório abordará a participação brasileira na Missão das Nações Unidas no Sudão. Durante o estudo serão apresentados o mecanismo de segurança coletiva da ONU, as características da missão e da participação brasileira naquele país, bem como as perspectivas futuras para as operações da ONU no Sudão. Este trabalho baseia-se em dados coletados em pesquisa bibliográfica e documental além de observação participante do autor durante atuação como integrante daquela missão. Os conhecimentos coletados apresentarão aspectos importantes da estrutura da missão de paz e da preparação e atuação de oficiais brasileiros que contribuíram para a conquista dos objetivos estabelecidos e para a projeção do Brasil no cenário internacional

The end of the Cold War paved the way for the emergence of a series of conflicts based on intra-national antagonisms kept dormant by the influence of great powers of the bipolar system. Many of these conflicts have occurred in African countries like Sudan, which has experienced long periods of civil war. This report will address the Brazilian participation in the United Nations Mission in Sudan. During the study, it will be presented the collective security mechanism of the United Nations, the characteristics of the mission and of the Brazilian participation in that country, as well as the future prospects for the United Nations operations in Sudan. This work is based on data collected from literature and documents as well as participant observation of the author while serving as member of that mission. The knowledge collected will show important aspects of the structure of the peacekeeping mission and the preparation and performance of Brazilian officials who contributed to the achievement of the objectives set and the projection of Brazil in the international arena
